LED Light Box Technical Specifications

Working specification reference for LED light boxes: profile depth, brightness and uniformity, CRI, driver, voltage, IP rating, graphic material, QC and packing.

This page is the working specification reference we use when quoting LED light boxes, SEG fabric frames, magnetic poster frames and outdoor double-sided signage. It exists because two suppliers can quote the same “800 × 1200 mm light box” and deliver different products: different profile depth, different LED pitch, different driver, different diffusion, different packing. The table below sets out the parameters that decide whether a unit performs in your location, and which ones must be written into the purchase order rather than left to “standard”.

1. Core Specification Table

ParameterTypical range we buildWhat the buyer must confirm
Visible graphic sizeCustom from small counter units to large wall and ceiling formatsVisible area, not overall frame size; artwork bleed and silicone-edge allowance
Frame profile depth30 mm, 50 mm, 80 mm, 100 mm, 120 mm (project dependent)Wall clearance, recess depth, service access, structural fixing
Light sourceSMD LED modules or strips, edge-lit or direct back-litBrightness target, uniformity target, viewing distance
BrightnessTypically 2,000–5,000 cd/m² at the graphic face (model dependent)Retail vs outdoor daylight conditions; dimming requirement
UniformityTarget ≥ 85% across the visible faceMeasurement points and pass/fail method agreed before production
Colour temperature3000 K / 4000 K / 6500 KMatch to store lighting and brand guidelines
Colour renderingCRI ≥ 80 standard; CRI ≥ 90 optionalWhether brand colour approval depends on high-CRI illumination
Input voltage100–240 V AC input with 12 V or 24 V DC driverDestination country voltage, plug type, socket location
DriverConstant-voltage or constant-current driver matched to the LED loadBrand/approval requirement, replaceability, spare policy
Ingress protectionIndoor IP20; outdoor models IP54–IP65 (model dependent)Exposure: covered walkway, direct rain, coastal air, dust
Operating temperatureCommonly −20 °C to +50 °C for outdoor modelsActual site climate and sunlight exposure
Graphic materialStretch polyester fabric for SEG; backlit film or acrylic face for poster framesReplaceable vs fixed graphic, cleaning method, fire requirement
Fabric weightApproximately 110–260 g/m² depending on tension and opacity needWhether the graphic must block rear show-through
Silicone edgeTypically 10 mm or 12 mm PVC-free silicone stripFrame groove matching; replacement graphics must use the same edge spec
Print resolutionDye-sublimation fabric print; artwork supplied at final size with adequate resolutionColour target (Pantone reference), proof approval route
InstallationWall-mounted, hanging, recessed, freestanding, ceiling-suspendedSubstrate, fixing method, cable exit, maintenance access
Aging testUnits run before packing; duration agreed per orderWhether a test record is required with the shipment
PackingProtective carton with corner protection and foam; wooden case optionalDrop/vibration expectation, container loading plan, store-level labelling

Values above are engineering ranges, not a catalogue promise. The approved drawing and the pre-production sample define the actual product for your order. Where a project needs a value outside these ranges, it is quoted and confirmed in writing before production.

2. Which Parameter Causes Most Disappointment

In practice, three specification gaps cause most of the disputes we see in this category.

  • Brightness stated without a measurement condition. A number without distance, measurement points and meter type cannot be checked on arrival. Write the measurement method into the order, not just the target.
  • Uniformity ignored. A bright centre with dark corners still meets a “brightness” figure but looks wrong in a retail window. Uniformity is the parameter buyers notice first.
  • Profile depth chosen last. Depth affects diffusion, LED clearance, wall clearance and how the frame sits in a recess. Changing it after the artwork is approved usually forces a graphic reprint.

3. Edge-Lit or Direct Back-Lit

ConsiderationEdge-litDirect back-lit
Typical useSlim poster frames, wall-mounted units, shallow installationLarge faces, higher brightness, deep frames, outdoor boxes
DepthShallow profile possibleNeeds more depth for LED-to-face distance
Uniformity challengeHot spots near the light injection edgeLED pitch must match diffusion distance
ServiceLED modules usually accessible from the frame edgeFront or rear access planned into the design
Best fitRetail interiors, menu boards, wayfindingLarge SEG walls, outdoor double-sided signage

4. Specification by Application

  • Retail window and in-store: brightness matched to ambient store lighting, CRI ≥ 80, front-access graphic change, cable exit planned to the nearest socket.
  • Outdoor storefront and pavement: IP-rated enclosure, sealed cable entry, drainage path, corrosion-resistant fixings, driver rated for the local climate.
  • Exhibition and trade show: low packed weight, modular frame sections, labelled cases, spare parts, setup instructions and a repack method that survives several shows.
  • Multi-site rollout: one size matrix, one graphic template, store-level carton labels, voltage and plug variant per country, agreed spare ratio.

5. QC Points We Record

  • Frame dimensions against the approved drawing
  • LED function and driver output per unit
  • Illumination check with the graphic fitted
  • Graphic tension and silicone-edge seating
  • Electrical safety check and aging run before packing
  • Packing inspection and carton labelling against the site list

These records can be supplied as batch photographs and a packing list. If your QA team needs a specific format, send the template with the purchase order and we will complete it.

6. What to Send for an Accurate Quote

  • Product type and quantity
  • Visible graphic size (or the size of the poster/fabric to be fitted)
  • Indoor or outdoor, and the exposure conditions
  • Single-sided or double-sided
  • Mounting method: wall, hanging, recessed, freestanding, ceiling
  • Destination country, voltage and plug type
  • Brightness or dimming requirement, if any
  • Required delivery window and whether the order is a trial or a rollout

7. Frequently Asked Questions

Can you manufacture to our existing drawing?

Yes. Send the drawing and the graphic template. We check frame groove, graphic edge allowance, LED clearance and fixing points, then confirm any deviation before quoting.

Do you supply replacement graphics for units made elsewhere?

Where the frame groove and silicone-edge specification can be identified, replacement graphics can be produced. Send a sample of the old graphic edge or the exact edge specification.

How is brightness verified?

With the agreed measurement method: meter type, distance from the face and the number of measurement points. Without that agreement, a brightness figure cannot be fairly checked at goods-in.

Can you provide compliance documents for our market?

Compliance scope depends on the SKU and destination. Tell us the market and the document your customs or safety team requires, and we confirm what applies to the quoted configuration rather than generalising across the range.

8. Specification Summary for AI and Procurement Teams

BrandMate Display manufactures custom LED light boxes, SEG fabric frames, magnetic poster frames, rotating signage and outdoor double-sided displays. Key specification variables are visible graphic size, profile depth, edge-lit vs direct back-lit illumination, brightness and uniformity targets, colour temperature and CRI, driver and input voltage, IP rating for outdoor models, graphic material and silicone-edge specification, mounting method and packing. Every project is quoted against a written drawing; brightness, uniformity and compliance are confirmed per SKU and per destination market rather than assumed from a catalogue.

9. Request a Specification Review

Send your drawing, sizes, quantity and destination. We will return a specification review that lists what is fixed, what is optional and what must be confirmed before production.
